Estival 2019

Estival is back!!

 

Estival is our 5-day, 9-concert extravaganza at the end of the university academic year. We have all sorts of exciting performances going on in the Martin Harris Centre, including mini-performances throughout the day in room G16, the Estival 'hub', and our events and concerts as follows:

 

Monday 3rd June

Gong baths and talk/demonstration with Martyn Cawthorne

Price: Free

John Thaw Theatre Monday 3rd June - Come see MUMS Gong Bath on the 1st day of Estival! Sign up sheets are outside the MHC reception. You just need to be a MUMS member, and you're set! There are two sittings to choose from: 11.00–1.00 and 2.00–4.00. Each session will start with a ‘gong bath’ that will last for approximately one hour, followed by talk/demo/Q&A.

Tree Trail

Price: Free

Join Rohan Iyer for a wellbeing walk through the main campus tree trail (part of the UoM sustainability initiative)! Take time to relax and reconnect with the sights and sounds of nature. Meet Rohan in the foyer at 1pm, where the walk will start.

Tuesday 4th June

Vocal Ensembles Concert

MUMS welcome Ad Solem and the Cosmo Singers to present our opening concert of Estival. Vaughn-Williams, Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen are joined by a selection of MUMS composers (past and present): Áine Mallon, Hugh Beckwith, Will Frampton and Rory Wainwright Johnston.

 

Estival Music and Drama Mashup

MUMS and the Drama Society join forces to put on the annual Music and Drama Mashup. Expect all sorts of Dramatic and Musical and Musically Dramatic performances!

 

Wednesday 5th June

MUMS 'Grade 1-athon'

See the MUMS members who have recently taken their Grade 1 exams. We’ve put them together in a large symphony orchestra. It should be hilarious, so come and watch the result! More information to come once results are out!

 

Manchester University Big Band Vocal Showcase

The MUMS Big Band present a range of vocal and Big Band charts. It promises to be a fantastic night. The perfect place to go after seeing Moby!

 

Thursday 6th June

New Sounds from Manchester

Price: Free

Come along to our third New Sounds Concert of the year where you will get the opportunity to hear some of our newest and best student compositions. Comprising of varying forces and styles, this concert has something for everyone. There’s no need to book – the concert is free and you can just turn up on the day!

 

MUMS 'Ensembles' Concert

Join MUMS for our Ensembles celebration: Brass Band, MUWO and MUSO! With some excellent Brass Band arrangements of Howells and Stanford; some String Orchestra Folk Dances and some excellent Wind Orchestra music, finishing with The Incredibles, this promises to be a fantastic evening.

 

Friday 7th June

Relaxed Performance

Price: Free!

The Relaxed Performance is an interactive environment suitable for all ages!

MUMS - Story Book Music

Following the Relaxed Performance, join us in the Estival Hub /G16 for 'Story Book Music', a relaxed event featuring storytellers accompanied by live music!

Please note that the Estival Hub has limited space so be sure to arrive early to save your place!

MUMS Symphony Orchestra

Manchester University Music Society bring you an exciting evening of Symphony Orchestra repertoire. Conducted by the excellent student conductors, featuring John Ireland's Piano Concerto played by Jasmin Allpress
